2001 Michel Picard Côtes du Rhône
$10
This is quite pleasant. The color is very deep considering the appellation. There is a bit of spice in the aroma, with a touch of black fruit. Very nice flavors of pepper and fruit, with a long but elegant finish.
I grilled a pork loin that was marinated in extra-virgin olive oil, a little white wine and freshly-ground black pepper. I used some Mesquite twigs to produce a little extra flavor, and the combination with this wine was simply astounding.
My quest for great Rhône wines continues, but this one is on my “buy” list.
