I haven’t posted anything in a while, mainly because I haven’t tasted any wine worth posting about. I’m not certain about today’s entry being worthy, but it is different so here goes…
I’ve never had a Chenin Blanc/Viognier blend. I’m now thinking that I might not ever try it again.
It is a very hot day – about 102°F in the shade. A perfect day for a Sauvignon Blanc – but I didn’t have one, so I was thinking that the typical crispness of a Chenin Blanc enhanced buy a touch of sweetness from a Viognier would do the trick.
I was thinking wrong. Sorry.
To its credit, I’ve not emptied it down the drain, as I’m giving it a chance to redeem itself as it warms up. I started at wine cooler temperature, which is about 55°F and tried it. Didn’t care for that, so put in the refrigerator for later and opened something else.
It looks nice, a very clear, light yellow tint with nice legs. It has a nice, fruity aroma with a little honeydew and grapefruit.
As for the taste – a bitter grapefruit dominates with some minerals thrown in the mix. My mouth is not happy.
As it warms in the glass, a little sweetness is showing up, I haven’t decided if that is a good thing.
All-in-all, I would say save your $8. Go for a decent beer or homemade margarita on a hot day like today.
